Titan Restoration is trained to professionally remove mold from your home.

Titan Restoration is trained to professionally remove mold from your home. Mold will usually grow in your business or home after a water damage or slow leak has occurred in your home and was not properly dried out.

Mold requires 3 items to grow:

  1. Water or moisture source
  2. Food source
  3. Time

Water is the only part of this equation that we can control. If an item never gets wet, then mold cannot grow.

Food Source - Food is everywhere in your home or business. Mold especially likes the paper used on your drywall. All naturally made or cellulose based materials can and will grow mold if a water or moisture source is present. Mold is common around showers or bathtubs, under sinks, or around water heaters.

Time - Mold needs time to grow and germinate. There are mold spores everywhere. Spores are like little mold seeds. They are everywhere and are not visible to the naked eye. When these spores encounter a moisture source, they attach themselves to any materials that are wet and are a food source. There are differing opinions on the amount of time spores need to germinate. These opinions differ from 3 days to 6 days. The mold will continue to grow until the water source dries up. If water is re-introduced to the area the mold was growing, it will begin to grow where it left off. There is no germination period for pre-existing mold.

Your nose is usually the easiest way to detect a mold issue. You will smell a musty odor (like an basement.) Look for any discoloration on the drywall, behind the baseboards, or under the sink. If you see mold, do not disturb it with a fan.

Call Titan Restoration for a mold inspection. Titan Restoration charges $125 to do a pre- inspection and estimate for repairs. If you hire Titan Restoration to do the repairs a $125 credit will be applied to your bill for services rendered.

What do you do if you discover or suspect mold in your home or business?

Call Titan Restoration to inspect your home. Titan Restoration charges a nominal fee of $125 dollars to inspect your home and write an estimate.

If you have visible mold that is easily traced to the water source, a pre-test by an industrial hygienist may not be required. A pre-test is performed by a qualified industrial hygienist. Air and tape samples are taken in the affected areas and compared with outside samples. He will then compare the samples for quantity of mold spores and types of mold spores. He can also write a protocol or set of procedures to properly remove the mold.

The area will then be isolated using a plastic barrier. This is called a containment. HEPA air filters will be set up creating a negative pressure inside the plastic barrier and to continually clean or scrub the air.

The mold will be removed and bagged for disposal. Wood studs will be sanded. All surfaces will be cleaned and HEPA vacuumed.

The HEPA air filters will scrub or clean the air for 24 to 48 hours.

The Industrial Hygienist will then return for a Clearance test. Air samples are taken inside the containment and outside. Samples are analyzed by the Industrial Hygienist. If the samples are back to normal levels, then the Industrial Hygienist clears the job for repair. If the samples fail, additional cleaning or work may need to be performed.

If the job is cleared, then the barriers can be removed and the home or business can be repaired.

Does mold present any health risks?

Currently, there are no federal standards or recommendations, (e.g., OSHA, NIOSH, EPA) for airborne concentrations of mold or mold spores.

Scientific research on the relationship between mold exposures and health effects is ongoing. This section provides a brief overview, but does not describe all potential health effects related to mold exposure. For more detailed information, consult a health professional or your state or local health department.

There are many types of mold. Most typical indoor air exposures to mold do not present a risk of adverse health effects. Molds can cause adverse effects by producing allergens (substances that can cause allergic reactions). Potential health concerns are important reasons to prevent mold growth and to remediate existing problem areas.

The onset of allergic reactions to mold can be either immediate or delayed. Allergic responses include hay fever-type symptoms such as runny nose and red eyes.

Molds may cause localized skin or mucosal infections but, in general, do not cause systemic infections in humans, except for persons with impaired immunity, AIDS, uncontrolled diabetes, or those taking immune suppressive drugs. An important reference with guidelines for immuno-compromised individuals can be found at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website (www.cdc.gov).

Molds can also cause asthma attacks in some individuals who are allergic to mold. In addition, exposure to mold can irritate the eyes, skin, nose and throat in certain individuals. Symptoms other than allergic and irritant types are not commonly reported as a result of inhaling mold in the indoor environment.

Eating, drinking, and using tobacco products and cosmetics where mold remediation is taking place should be avoided. This will prevent unnecessary contamination of food, beverage, cosmetics, and tobacco products by mold and other harmful substances within the work area.
