Goodyear, AZ is one of the larger suburbs of Phoenix. It has a total area of 301.6 square miles and has an estimated population of 72,864 as of 2013. It’s part of Maricopa County and is one of the cities in the greater Phoenix metropolitan area.

The town was originally purchased for cotton-planting purposes by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in 1917. The area had an economic surge during World War II, but later experienced financial troubles when industries slowed down in the post-war era. In 1946, it officially became a US town. As roads and infrastructure were built, commerce flowed in and Goodyear eventually stabilized.

Like Phoenix and other neighboring cities, Goodyear has a subtropical desert climate. Atmospheric conditions are usually dry and the area gets lots of sunshine all year round. The town is home to the Goodyear Ballpark and other recreational destinations.
